Luxembourg is taking a significant step towards becoming a leader in smart mobility and automotive innovation with the official opening of the Automobility Incubator at the 14-hectare Automobility Campus in Bissen.
The 40 million euros government-backed project, managed by Technoport, aims to support startups, scale-ups, and established global companies by offering cutting-edge office spaces, laboratories, and research facilities. This incubator will serve as a strategic platform for fostering sustainable mobility solutions in one of the most dynamic sectors globally.
Minister of Economy Lex Delles highlighted the importance of the incubator in Luxembourg’s innovation strategy. He emphasized that the facility is a key element in the country’s plans to stay ahead in the field of autonomous driving and sustainable mobility. “Luxembourg has a card to play with autonomous driving, and this hub will help us stay ahead in this transformative field,” Delles said during the inauguration. The incubator not only fosters innovation but also attracts international companies and fosters partnerships that accelerate the development of cutting-edge mobility solutions.
Starting in early 2025, the Automobility Incubator will welcome its first tenants: Pony.ai, a Chinese pioneer in autonomous driving technology; Right Energy, a company specializing in sustainable energy solutions; and Voltcore, known for its expertise in electric vehicle infrastructure. The incubator aims to create a collaborative environment where established companies and promising startups can interact, share ideas, and drive progress. “This inauguration strengthens our role in building an integrated, effective, and internationally attractive innovation ecosystem. We’re confident this site will evolve into a vibrant hub for mobility innovation,” said Technoport CEO Diego De Biasio.
The incubator is designed with sustainability in mind, following circular construction principles and housing 2.100 m² of office space and 400 m² of R&D workshops. The campus also supports research in autonomous vehicles, smart infrastructure, and materials science. Companies already established at the site include IEE and Solarcleano, with global tire giant Goodyear planning to bring 350 employees to the campus by 2026.
The campus offers more than just physical space, it aims to build a dynamic ecosystem for the mobility industry. Mayor of Bissen, David Viaggi, stated that the incubator is creating a community where innovative ideas can thrive. The growing ecosystem in Bissen is set to become a launchpad for the mobility solutions of tomorrow.
With plans to attract more companies and foster collaboration, Luxembourg’s Automobility Incubator is well on its way to positioning the country as a global leader in autonomous and sustainable mobility innovation.
