Luxair has reached a major milestone in its history with the arrival of its first Embraer E195-E2 in Luxembourg. The aircraft landed earlier today at 14.00 CET at Luxembourg Airport, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for Luxair as it begins an ambitious fleet renewal programme designed to secure the national airline’s long-term growth, efficiency, and sustainability.
The aircraft was officially welcomed during an event held at the Luxair Maintenance Hangar, in the presence of Mrs Yuriko Backes, Minister of Mobility and Public Works, along with other distinguished representatives of Luxembourg’s institutions and aviation community. Upon arrival, the E195-E2 received a traditional water salute, jointly organised by lux-Airport and CGDIS, symbolising the start of this new chapter for the airline.
Connecting Luxembourg to the future
The introduction of the E195-E2 represents a key investment in the future of Luxair and in Luxembourg’s connectivity. It ensures that the airline remains competitive and sustainable while continuing to deliver the quality and reliability passengers expect from Luxembourg’s national carrier.
“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to a cleaner, quieter, and more comfortable future. With this new generation of aircraft, fuel emissions will be reduced, directly contributing to the fight against climate change. I am deeply committed to this undertaking to place the environment, customer comfort, and the quiet of local residents at the heart of our strategic vision. Developing responsible, innovative, and forward-looking air transport, by making the sky a sustainable space, means protecting our planet, improving quality of life, and offering a unique travel experience,” emphasized Yuriko Backes, Minister for Mobility and Public Works.
“The arrival of this first Embraer E195-E2 is a decisive step into Luxair’s future,” said Gilles Feith, Chief Executive Officer of Luxair. “It marks the beginning of our ambitious fleet renewal programme, which will strengthen our competitiveness, reduce our environmental impact and enhance the travel experience for our passengers. With the E2, we are investing in quieter, more efficient and more comfortable aircraft, ensuring that Luxair remains a reliable connector for Luxembourg and the Greater Region for many years to come.”
“It is a privilege to see Luxair take this important step toward a more sustainable and efficient future with the E195-E2,” said Marie-Louise Philippe, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, Head of Region Europe and Central Asia, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “This aircraft brings the latest in technology, comfort, and environmental performance to Luxair’s operations, reinforcing our shared commitment to delivering an exceptional travel experience while reducing emissions and noise. Today marks not only the continuation of a trusted partnership but also a new chapter in connecting Luxembourg and the region with the most efficient aircraft in the small narrowbody segment.”
A next-generation aircraft for a next-generation Luxair
This first E195-E2 is the first of six aircraft firmly ordered by Luxair, with options for another three.
The aircraft is scheduled to enter passenger service at the beginning of 2026. Together with forthcoming Boeing 737 aircraft, the E2 family forms a key pillar of Luxair’s modernisation strategy, offering passengers more comfort, quieter flights, and a lower environmental footprint.
The Embraer E195-E2, the most advanced aircraft in its class, combines technical innovation with sustainability and passenger comfort. Key benefits include:
- Lower emissions: Up to 29% less fuel burn compared to previous-generation aircraft, supporting Luxair’s commitment to more sustainable aviation.
- Reduced noise footprint: Up to 35% quieter than the aircraft it replaces, it is one of the quietest single-aisle jets on the market, benefiting both passengers and airport communities.
- Enhanced passenger experience: A bright, modern cabin with a 2–2 seating layout and no middle seat offers more space and comfort, complemented by a generous seat pitch, larger windows and overhead bins, 60W USB-C power outlets at every seat, and an advanced in-flight entertainment system.
- Operational performance: Advanced aerodynamics and latest-generation engines providing greater range, improved efficiency, and increased operational flexibility across Luxair’s network.
The arrival of this first E2 also introduces Luxair’s refreshed livery into regular operation. The new design places Luxembourg’s colours at the forefront in a clean, modern interpretation of the national flag on the tail, combined with a bolder Luxair logo for stronger visibility, an expression of national pride in the skies.
